From Goodreads:
Solving the Maze was supposed to be the end. No more puzzles. No more variables. And no more running. Thomas was sure that escape meant he and the Gladers would get their lives back. But no one really knew what sort of life they were going back to.
In the Maze, life was easy. They had food, and shelter, and safety . . . until Teresa triggered the end. In the world outside the Maze, however, the end was triggered long ago.
Burned by sun flares and baked by a new, brutal climate, the earth is a wasteland. Government has disintegrated—and with it, order—and now Cranks, people covered in festering wounds and driven to murderous insanity by the infectious disease known as the Flare, roam the crumbling cities hunting for their next victim . . . and meal.
The Gladers are far from finished with running. Instead of freedom, they find themselves faced with another trial. They must cross the Scorch, the most burned-out section of the world, and arrive at a safe haven in two weeks. And WICKED has made sure to adjust the variables and stack the odds against them.
Thomas can only wonder—does he hold the secret of freedom somewhere in his mind? Or will he forever be at the mercy of WICKED?
Just reading the summary should be enough to make you run and pick up a copy of the second book in the thrilling Maze Runner trilogy. Once again, James Dashner doesn't disappoint. Ever since I turned the last page of The Maze Runner, I've been wanting to get my hands on book 2. After reading the first few paragraphs of The Scorch Trials, I was definitely hooked.
In my opinion, The Scorch Trials must be read after The Maze Runner, because it picks up right where book one left off. I think you'll miss out on a lot of details if you read them out of order, but that's totally up to the readers.
I have to say, James Dashner is a genius. Lol, everything was so intense and full of twists and turns, I had no clue what would happen next. The only thing that disappointed me in the end was...well... the end. It left off just like that, and just like the ending of book one, left me hanging. I guess that's how the author makes his readers anticipate the next installment!
The cover is really fitting for the story. Its not what you'll call pretty, but then again, The Scorch Trials is anything but pretty. The cover gives us a small glimpse at how the Scorch, where Thomas (the main character) and his fellow Gladers (friends) have to get past on Phase Two of WICKED's trials, looks like. I like it :D.

Great review! I LOVED the Maze Runner...it was epic! And after that I couldn't wait to read Scorch Trails but I think I will by your review. I don't think I could endure the cliff hanger and wait until he publishes the next one! Ahhh :D
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, will have to look into thee.
ReplyDeleteLALALALALA I'm not reading! =D LOL, so I didn't actually read your review, since I don't want any spoilers for THE MAZE RUNNER, which I just got an audiobook of from the library, but I did stick around long enough to see the five stars. Glad to know that you think this series doesn't slack off! Thanks for the review!
ReplyDeleteAh a cliff hanger ending again? I recently read Maze Runner, and it was both good and bad for me..the pace of course, would be furiously fast in both books, a positive.
ReplyDeleteI am a monster-sized James Dashner fan! Oh, how I love him! :-)
ReplyDeleteI have Mazerunner on my bookshelf just waiting for me to find time to read it. This one looks good too and I didn't even know there was a sequel.
ReplyDeleteLove the review! ^^
ReplyDeleteOh and I'm now following you =D

I love this series so much. I am just dying for an ARC or something of the third book. Haha. I love the covers. I like how you don't really get them until you've read each book and then they are suddenly clear.
ReplyDeleteI love finding people who have also read and loved these books :)
