Evie’s always thought of herself as a normal teenager, even though she works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she’s falling for a shape-shifter, and she’s the only person who can see through paranormals’ glamours.
But Evie’s about to realize that she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures. So much for normal.
Vampires, werewolves, faeries, trolls, mermaids, gremlins, hags, and more, all come together in this awesomesauce 2010 debut. Narrated from the view of sixteen year old Evie, Paranormalcy had me, at times, on the edge of my seat in suspense, holding back laughter, and ultimately, never wanting it to end.
Evie works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency. She is the only one in the world who can see through a paranormal's glamour. Which is why the IPCA took her in. Weird as it is, Evie considers her life... normal. But is Evie normal? Is she even human? Or something else?
But Evie doesn't have time to think about her past, and who she is. Someone's killing the paranormals, startlingly fast. Their already endangered numbers are falling dramatically, and no one knows who, how, or why they are being killed. Evie's trapped in the center of it all, and she has more to do with the killer than she thinks.
I loved Evie's character. She's unlike many other YA protagonists. She owns a Taser and, get this, its pink. How's that for quirky and unique? Paranormalcy was easy to get into, easy to get out of, and has me thristy for the second book - Supernaturally.
Unique, fun, and ultimately thrilling, Paranormalcy is one book you just can't miss.
-Would I recommend this to anyone? Probably ages 12 and up
-Is there a second book? Yes
-Will I be looking forward to book two? Definitely!
Normally, I don't like covers with models on them, but the model on this one is sort of distant, not in my face. Me likes :D
