A hidden truth.
Mortal enemies.
Doomed love.

Marked as special at an early age, Jacinda knows her every move is watched. But she longs for freedom to make her own choices. When she breaks the most sacred tenet among her kind, she nearly pays with her life. Until a beautiful stranger saves her. A stranger who was sent to hunt those like her. For Jacinda is a draki—a descendant of dragons whose greatest defense is her secret ability to shift into human form.

Forced to flee into the mortal world with her family, Jacinda struggles to adapt to her new surroundings. The only bright light is Will. Gorgeous, elusive Will who stirs her inner draki to life. Although she is irresistibly drawn to him, Jacinda knows Will's dark secret: He and his family are hunters. She should avoid him at all costs. But her inner draki is slowly slipping away—if it dies she will be left as a human forever. She'll do anything to prevent that. Even if it means getting closer to her most dangerous enemy.

Mythical powers and breathtaking romance ignite in this story of a girl who defies all expectations and whose love crosses an ancient divide.

Putting off diving into Sophie Jordan's YA debut was a big mistake. For Firelight is a fiery delight that brings a unique spark into the diverse variety of creatures lurking in YA literature.

Sophie Jordan's plot is more memorable that her writing style, which I'm happy to call indulging. Especially the intense ending... let's just say I'm very luck to have Vanish waiting for me on my bookshelf.

Jacinda is the first fire-breathing draki born to her pride in generations. So it's no surprise that they want to control her life... and who she will spend it with. Yet despite the fact that she hates the way her pride wants to control her, she doesn't want to leave it.

But things don't always happen the way you want it to. So when Jacinda finds herself dragged into a barren desert to slowly kill off her draki, she'll do anything to save that special part of herself.

Even if it means hanging out with her enemy.

   A hunter.

Firelight was nothing I expected it to be. It was full of emotion and I liked Jacinda's perfectly flawed character.

If I didn't have Vanish waiting for me, I'd say I can't wait for the next installment. But instead, I'll cut this short, because I've got some reading to do. The world of draki awaits ;)

I love the rich red tones and the shadow of scales on Jacinda's face. Overall, this cover is a definite win!

  5. I read this one when it just came out. I liked it but I wasn't overly impressed by the story. I hope that the second book brings some more maturity to Jacinda.

    Thanks for the great review.

  14. I adored this novel. Such a great addition to YA. Dragons are just awesome! Rarely used, and definitely not as the protagonist. This book was such fun!

  15. Im srry but i really didnt enjoy Firelight. :( Plot was terriable; I kept expecting something to happen like the main character running away from her mom and sis but she just complained through the whole. I really hate reading about a whinny person.
