398 pages
Publisher: Razorbill
Release Date: January 11th, 2011

Seventeen-year-old Amy joins her parents as frozen cargo aboard the vast spaceship Godspeed and expects to awaken on a new planet, three hundred years in the future. Never could she have known that her frozen slumber would come to an end fifty years too soon and that she would be thrust into the brave new world of a spaceship that lives by its own rules.
Amy quickly realizes that her awakening was no mere computer malfunction. Someone-one of the few thousand inhabitants of the spaceship-tried to kill her. And if Amy doesn’t do something soon, her parents will be next.
Now Amy must race to unlock Godspeed’s hidden secrets. But out of her list of murder suspects, there’s only one who matters: Elder, the future leader of the ship and the love she could never have seen coming.

And to close this month’s IceyPick, I bring you the wonderful Beth Revis!
IceyBooks: If you could switch places with any author, who would it be?
Beth Revis: JK Rowling. I want to live in Hogwarts for a little while, see how her brain works, know what other stories she’s cooking up, and how much of the Harry Potter worlds never made it to print.

IceyBooks: What is your favorite color? Would you die your hair that color?
Beth Revis: I’m weird–my favorite color is gray! So I don’t have to die my hair…I guess it’ll turn gray on it’s own eventually anyway! That said, I think people with gray streaks, like Julie Kagawa or Rogue, are SUPER cool. But since my natural hair color is blonde, I think I’d need to die my hair dark, then leave out a stripe to bleach for that to work…?

IceyBooks: Has writing always been your dream job, or would you have been something else, given the chance?
Beth Revis: I have ALWAYS wanted to be a writer. ALWAYS. I also worked as a teacher, a close second, but while I loved teaching, I didn’t love grading, and it’s nice to fulfill my lifelong dream by being a full-time writer.

IceyBooks: What is your favorite part of nature, the wind, the earth, the trees…?
Beth Revis: Is this an Avatar: The Last Airbender question? Because then I’d say that I want to be able to bed air, so I can fly, but secretly I’d really like to be the next Aang!

IceyBooks: No it isn’t an Avatar question. I don’t even know anything about that movie/book lol. Anyway, when writing, do you actually write or do you type?
Beth Revis: I type. But if I get stuck–which always happens at some point in the process–I revert to pen and paper to brainstorm.

IceyBooks: If you could write a letter to anyone, who would it be and what would you say?
Beth Revis: Hmmm…I think I’d write a letter to my brother. There’s a lot left unsaid there, that might have been better said.

IceyBooks: Thank you so much for joining us! Is there anything else you would like to add?
Beth Revis: Thank you for having me! I hope everyone enjoys ACROSS THE UNIVERSE…and the sequel, A MILLION SUNS.

Great questions! And haha – Avatar!! It was a cartoon. I really intense cartoon. It was told in chapters, one for each nation (fire, earth, water, air) and within those chapters were different episodes. So I guess they always planed for an end. So it was like a mini-series of cartoons… only it wasn't mini… It makes sense if you know what I'm talking about. Anyway, that show was everyone may age's guilty pleasure. We used to all watch it but NO ONE would admit it. I think that's really funny that she brought it into your questions.

Fantastic interview, Hafsah! I've actually never known anyone whose favorite color is gray! Very unique. My favorite color is blue and I don't think I would ever dye my hair blue. I've actually never dyed my hair. Ever. Oh and I used to watch Avatar with my brothers! A long time ago hehe.
