Interview with Elana Johnson – Author of Possession

Possession
Today, I have with me, the awesome Elana Johnson, debut author of POSSESSION, which is full of awesome and a very mouthy main character. Read on to learn more about the author behind the book and earn your chance to win a signed copy!
IceyBooks: Describe POSSESSION is 7-9 words for us.
Elana Johnson: Brainwashed society + free-thinking girl + secrets and sarcasm = POSSESSION
Isn’t her hair wicked cool?!
Reminds me of Vi ;)

IceyBooks: What was one unforgettable moment that occurred during the writing and/or publishing process of Possession?
Elana Johnson: Actually selling the book. I seriously didn’t think it would happen. I’d queried agents for 8 months, so to have my agent call and say someone wanted to buy the book? FREAKY. I was on the phone when my husband got home, and I scrawled on a post-it: “Simon Pulse wants to buy it!” and held it up to him. I still have that post-it. And it still feels unreal sometimes.
IceyBooks: Where did you find the inspiration for Possession?
Elana Johnson: I was playing the typical “What if?” game with myself, and thought, “What if I couldn’t make my own choices?” And that was how the root of my dystopian society was born.
IceyBooks: Is there a message you hope readers will take from Possession?
Elana Johnson: Well, it is a brainwashed society. So I hope readers will think about who they’re listening to in their lives. And go away more determined to think for themselves.
IceyBooks: Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Elana Johnson: I’m a married-for-fourteen-years mother of two, who teaches 700 students. When I’m not laundering, taxiing, scheduling, sleeping, blogging, or watching TV, I’m writing.
IceyBooks: What is your favorite hobby (besides reading and writing)?
Elana Johnson: Paper crafting. It’s my dirty little secret. I like to stamp and color and accessorize with ribbon. Handmade cards make me happy.
IceyBooks: If you weren’t a writer, what would you have been?
Elana Johnson: Oh, man, there’s no way to answer this. If money weren’t an issue, I would love to travel the world. Is “world-traveler” an occupation? It is now.
IceyBooks: Thanks for joining us today! Is there anything else you’d like to tell my readers?
Elana Johnson: Dare to wish on stars. Then be prepared to work hard to achieve those wishes.

Wonderful interview, Hafsah! I do love her hair! I've always wanted to cut it really, really short but at the end I always end up not doing it. Sigh… How cool that she still has that post-it! I cannot wait to read Elana's book. Thanks so much for the contest too! =)

Possession sounds like an AWESOME new dystopian. A brainwashed society, breaking rules, and chaos = hours of fun reading for me. Plus, I love the simple white cover. Thanks for this giveaway opportunity. =)
