Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days. The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war- and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

In this electrifying debut, Tahereh Mafi presents a world as riveting as The Hunger Games and a superhero story as thrilling as The X-Men. Full of pulse-pounding romance, intoxicating villainy, and high-stakes choices, Shatter Me is a fresh and original dystopian novel—with a paranormal twist—that will leave readers anxiously awaiting its sequel

Shatter Me shattered me. Shattered my brain, shattered my senses, shattered my emotions. It threw me here and there and there and here. I was struggling to pick up the pieces of my brain running in different emotions.

Shatter Me is worth every word. Every period, every number, every letter debut author Tahereh Mafi threw down was perfect, articulate, poetic. It makes me want to read it all over again. It made me trip when I tried walking away, it glued me to the floor when I picked it up again.

That is the beauty of Shatter Me. And there’s only one way to experience it for yourself.

Tahereh Mafi weaves a tale with the most descriptive prose, the most elegant of metaphors, and the most beautiful words. Her writing takes the cake, the most scrumptious of cakes, mind you. Juliette’s story will keep you at the edge of your seat, tears at the edge of your eyelids. You won’t be able to turn the pages fast enough. When they say its The Hunger Games meets the X-Men, they mean it.

The story: Juliette has been locked up for 264 days. The story opens with her being assigned a new cellmate, little does she know, this cellmate is more than just another might-be-insane boy. Days later, she’s forced, with a gun pressed against her back, out of her cell and thrown into glory. Every dress imaginable, more food than she can ever stomach, and a luxurious room all for herself. But of course, there’s a catch – the Reestablishment wants her to use her power, her curse, her gift, for them. She’ll be their weapon, or she’ll be her own.

When I say you have to pick up Tahereh Mafi’s electrifying debut when it shelves, I mean it. Shatter Me is the definition of unputdownable at its best.

I swear, that girl is the metaphor QUEEN! Sometimes, figurative language like that can get overwhelming when used as much as she used metaphors but they totally worked. Awesome book.
