Today, I have the author of Penguin 2012 Breathless Read, THE INNOCENTS, Lili Peloquin, who was kind enough to stop by for an interview and a signed giveaway of her book.
IceyBooks: Where did you find the inspiration for THE INNOCENTS?
Lili Peloquin: For me The Innocents is a combination of whodunit and teen soap opera. The book that probably inspired me the most is Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier, a great romantic-gothic novel about a young woman who becomes obsessed with her husband’s very beautiful, very tormented, very dead first wife. I also drew inspiration from television shows like Revenge and Veronica Mars, shows the center around the solving of a mystery.
IceyBooks: Describe THE INNOCENTS in five words.
Lili Peloquin: Haunted, smoldering, moody, spooky, romantic.
IceyBooks: In one word, how would you describe your journey to publication? Why?
Lili Peloquin: Arduous! The publishing industry is tough. There’s a lot of rejection. You have to make up your mind that this is what you want to do, then just put your head down and do it.
IceyBooks: Did you always want to be a writer?
Lili Peloquin: I was always a reader. It was until I graduated from college and was forced to decide what I wanted to do with my life, though, that I tried to become a writer.
Lili Peloquin grew up in New England, where the beginning of summer still reminds her of that moment right before someone tells you a secret. The Innocents is her first novel.
