Gifts of Wonderland – A.G. Howard’s SPLINTERED Blog Tour

Posted by on December 7, 2012

I love all things Alice in Wonderland, so naturally, I’m super excited to read SPLINTERED by A.G. Howard – which is a darker version of Lewis Carroll’s classic. I’m today’s stop in the official SPLINTERED blog tour, hosted by Mod Podge Blog Tours!

For the fifth day of Splintered, we’re going to talk Christmas gifts, and we’ve chosen the most difficult guy in Wonderland to buy for. After all, what could a brooding fae-like creature, who can fly and inhabit dreams, possibly need?

To assist us on our quest for the perfect gift, Alyssa Gardner and Jebediah Holt Splintered’s hero and heroine—have agreed to offer their insights as we spy from the wrong side of the looking glass on Wonderland’s most enigmatic citizen, Morpheus.

Jeb: You’re sure he can’t see you…

Alyssa: I’m sure. It’s like a two way mirror. It’s all good. *gulps to suppress her doubts*

Jeb: He’s staring right at you. *scowls* I don’t want him getting in your head.

Alyssa: He’s probably staring at himself. World’s biggest narcissist, you know? *rubs Jeb’s arm* We’re supposed to be helping the readers. So what would a good Christmas present be for Morpheus?

Jeb: *touches Alyssa’s hand before tucking a fist in his pocket* A black eye? No wait. How about a shirt. What kind of a creeper sits on top of a cliff dressed in nothing but pants?

Alyssa: Well, he does have wings… *intently studies Morpheus, trying to fight his pull on her mind*

Jeb: *slants a glare at Alyssa, hot enough to scald her cheeks*

Alyssa: *clears her throat* Let’s start with a list of his favorite things…

Jeb: You mean like moth corpses? The guy’s got warped taste…

Dead Moth

Alyssa: I was thinking more along the lines of those kooky hats he likes … or maybe those tiny glass houses he collects.

Alyssa and Jeb: *eyes meeting* Chess!

Jeb: There. The perfect gift for the freak who has everything. *takes Alyssa’s hand* Now let’s go.

Alyssa: *pauses…unable to look away from the mirror*

Jeb: Al?

Alyssa: He says he wants our readers to have his gift. *swings a glance to Jeb* He’s feeling … generous.

Jeb: *snarls* I told you he could see you! These people don’t need to be indebted to him. Nothing he offers comes without a price. We both know that. Right?

Silence….

Jeb: Al, right?

Alyssa: *looks down at her feet and shrugs*

Jeb: We’re getting out of here. *leads Alyssa to the exit and turns to us* You should do the same; he’s got a way of getting to people … don’t say I didn’t warn you.

  1. Q: Are you enjoying the official Splintered blog tour?
A: Yes it's very interesting, I love blog tours that have imaginative posts not only reviews. :)
Q: What's been your favorite part?
A: This article about Christmas gifts.
Q: Why are you excited about SPLINTERED?!
    A: I adore retelling. :)

  2. Hm… I don't think I've ever gotten a really, really weird present. But once year a friend of mine gave me a box of speculatius cookies and a glass of sour gerkins because she knows I love both. Does the combination count as weird?
As for why I think I'll love Splintered: It sounds like such a wonderful twist of the typical Alice story but is also closely related to it with Alyssa being a descendant of the real Alice! And I think the idea of making the tour different places in Wonderland is awesome :D
    Thanks for the giveaways!

    1. Eek! Thanks so much for catching that, Nobonita! I let the blog coordinator know. Oh, and I'm glad you like the post; as you can see, your boy is his usual knight in shining armor self … hee. :) Looking forward to being on your blog soon!

    2. No problem! And yes, I already checked that out.Jeb is definitely the highlight of this post.Wait,no, just this once,I'll let Morpheus have the spotlight. He DOES look hot ;).And I'm looking forward to you being on my blog too. :) Hopefully I'll get it around by the end of this week. :)

  3. ALWAYS LISTEN TO JEB!! GAWD, she kills me!!!

    *takes deep, cleaning breath*

Okay, oddest Christmas gift–it was an “almost” gift my husband wanted to buy me. A steering wheel for my 1983 Honda Prelude. Yeah…thankfully he couldn't find one (at the junk yard!) so I was never the recipient of that gift. Good for him, or he'd probably be married to another girl right now. :)

  4. I'm exicited for Splintered because of the story re-make of Alice in Wonderland. Plus, I love Alice in Wonderland (well, more of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland) than the original!
But either way, AiW in amazing!
I can't wait till Splintered is out!

  5. Loved this! Oh Jeb, you are so funny. Please get into a tussle with Morpheus. But he can leave his shirt off, and you better take yours off too…

ANYWAY! Great interview. Always nice seeing what sort of Christmas presents strange and kooky people like! Love the chess pieces too!

  6. The weirdest gift I received was an entire collection of Barbie clothes, dolls, houses, cars, and kits. It was incredible. The problem was that my aunt gave it to me when I was 17…

I am really looking forward to reading SPLINTERED! I have heard such great things about the books, and I can't wait to be a part of the reading action!

  7. Nothing strange. I got a bath bubble set that came in a silk box with the letter A printed on the front. One my name is Samantha and my last name starts with a D so ya, no A in my name. Second I hate bubble bath stuff, they have always freaked me out. :( It was wrost present ever.

  8. Hmmm the most bizarre gift? A box of buttons from old Russian military uniforms. Actually, I loved that gift and still have those buttons somewhere. I mean, who thinks of stuff like that?? (My Aunt, she's fantastic:))

Thanks for the amazing chess piece giveaway!

  9. My most bizarre gift was a cardboard cat cut-out from my grandmother. My mom got one too. My grandma was quirky, lol.

What I like about the tour is simply the Alice in Wonderland theme, which I am a huge fan and collector.

Thank you for the tour & giveaways!

  10. Ok, that's a lot of years to think back. An electric stove is not that weird, so I guess this metal sppletree thing to hang on the wall. Only that doesn't look that weird either. There was that neon yellow sweater that was made for a giant compared to me.I guess some of the candle things I've gotten were sorta weird. I know, the old clock box without a clock in it. Hope some of these count. Thanks for the giveaway.

  11. I haven't received anything too bizarre, but I did receive a large, rather strange nutcracker brooch one year… I think I was 14 or 15 and had never worn a brooch in my life. I can't honestly say I've ever worn it.
This is a fun tour, thank you! :)

  12. This is actually my first stop on the blog tour, although I've been eyeing this book for quite some time. (The cover is amazing also!)

Splintered sounds fantastic – right up my alley; the darker the better. :) Thanks for your MOST generous giveaway!!

  13. I hadn't heard about this blog tour until I read this post, but boy am I glad I did. Splintered sounds amazing! I love retellings and twists on old classics and look forward to reading this.

  14. I received a plaster turtle (about a foot in diameter) – I have no clue what it was about, but I have to tell you I have been carting that turtle around with me for over twenty years now just like part of the family LOL I just came across the tour today and am looking forward to more. Thank you for sharing in the fun today.

  15. I love reading through blog tours, it gets me even more excited to pick up the book! I have been wanting to read Splintered for a while, through seeing it on Goodreads. I have even downloaded the original Alice and Wonderland to read before I read Splintered! Thanks for the awesome giveaway.

  16. I haven't really received any bizarre Christmas gifts, but I did have a friend who bought boxing gloves for the nicest girl in our class as a secret santa joke. :P Thanks for the giveaway!

  17. The most bizarre Christmas gift I have ever received would have to be a pink barbie house…. 1 did/do not like barbies and I loathe the color pink….

This sounds like an interesting book. The last Alice in wonderland twist book I read I loved so I think I will love yours too!

  18. I went to my boyfriends aunts house on Xmas eve, everyones opening great gifts and I am giftless.
The next I stayed home while he went back for brunch, he comes home with an obviously hastily wrapped gift saying that it was there last night and I must of missed it, I opened it and it was a large glass bottle with soap in it and a tacky feather hot glued to the lid!
You could see the dried blob of glue!
I was so offended I never went back for another Xmas.
It was an obvious A-regift or B-some thoughtless twit picked it up for me last minute from the ugliest gifts you give to potential family members store.
It was the gift that hurt the most to receive. I thought I was more important to them I suppose.
    Such is life I suppose.
Thank you for the awesome contest :)

  19. Yes I've enjoyed the blog tour! I really love this post about Christmas gifts :) as did my strangest.. idk, I really haven't gotten anything strange.. nothing that comes to mind anyway.

  20. Ok so idk anything bizarre I ever received for Christmas but I do know I have received some not so exciting gifts while playing white elephant.dirty santa game. But being I have a headache I cant remember what they were.

I excited about Splintered is like others here,I love Alive in Wonderland!

  21. The cover for this book is amazing, it drew me right in. After reading what its about, i can't wait to get my hands on it!!! Sounds amazing! As for the christmas gift i can only think of the Oranges i used to get in my Stocking lol

  22. I am very excited about reading Splintered and it's mostly because of all the raving reviews I had the chance of reading. Yay! =D

    Thank you for the giveaway!

  23. When I was 7, I got a nightlight that was a creepy looking doll. Her head glowed. It was the most horrifying gift ever. *shudder*

  24. The weirdest Christmas present I've received? My grandmother once gave me two snowmen figures that cost her $100. They were just Styrofoam balls and felt and looked like a craft project. She left the $50 price sticker on both of them. And then she wanted them back a week later. lol

  25. Well the most bizarre gift were earrings, I was 10 and I didn't use earrings at all not even when my mom did a tantrum for me to use them so when I received 25 pairs of so of tiny earrings I just put it away and went for a gift that included toys (those earrings where never used by me)
