THE NEPTUNE PROJECT by Polly Holyoke – Exclusive Cover Reveal and Giveaway

Posted by on December 1, 2012

Today, I’m excited to reveal another cover – this time for a shocking tale that will leave you gasping for air. Literally. Because THE NEPTUNE PROJECT by Polly Holyoke (Disney-Hyperion, Summer 2013) takes place beneath the surface. Scroll down to read the synopsis, check out the cover, and enter to win an ARC – open INTERNATIONALLY!

With her weak eyes and useless lungs that often leave her gasping for air, Nere feels more at home swimming with the dolphins her mother studies than she does hanging out with her classmates. Nere has never understood why she is so much more comfortable and confident in the water than on land until the day she learns the shocking truth—she is one of a group of kids who have been genetically altered to survive in the ocean. These products of the “Neptune Project” are supposed to build a better future under the waves, safe from the terrible famines and wars and that rock the surface world.

But there are some big challenges ahead of her: no one ever asked Nere if she wanted to be part of a science experiment; the other Neptune kids aren’t exactly the friendliest bunch, and in order to reach the safe haven of the new Neptune colony, Nere and her fellow mutates must swim across hundreds of miles of dangerous ocean, relying on their wits, their loyal dolphins and one another to evade terrifying undersea creatures and a government that will stop at nothing to capture the Neptune kids … dead or alive.

Fierce battle and daring escapes abound as Nere and her friend race to safety in this action-packed marine adventure.

Polly Holyoke

Polly Holyoke grew up in Colorado and has been imagining stories since she was in fifth grade. When she isn’t writing, Polly loves reading, camping, skiing, scuba diving and hiking in the desert. She lives with three rescue dogs, two spoiled cats and a nice husband who is quite tolerant about the piles of books all over their house. She earned her teaching certificate from the University of Colorado and taught middle school social studies for almost a decade before she quit to concentrate on her writing. She thinks the best part about being an author is going to work in her sweat pants and getting paid for daydreaming!

And now for the cover! What do you think?

    1. Hi Terry, thanks so much. I am truly pleased with it. I think it does capture the feel of the world beneath the waves. Maybe I should come up your way and try some ice diving sometime… or maybe not :. I have ALWAYS wanted to take a real sled dog ride!

    1. Hi Lauren, I hope lots of MG girls feel the same way! I know I wanted to read adventure stories where girls got to save the world when I was that age, and there just weren't many books available like that. I'm so glad the publishing world is changing and offering more stories to girls that aren't just about “getting the boy.” Although my heroine probably is going to get the boy, but first she gets to save the world! :)

  1. Hi Chris, thanks so much! I'm very happy with it. I hope lots of daughters will love the story. Mine haven't read it yet, but they heard me talk about it so much driving them to and from school, I think they feel like they know the whole story anyway!
