Cover Reveal and Giveaway for ASK AGAIN LATER by Liz Czukas

Posted by on June 18, 2013

You may or may not have seen the cover for Liz Czukas’s debut novel, ASK AGAIN LATER, over at YA Highway. I’m excited to have her cover here for a signal boost and an awesome giveaway for the gorgeous book!

Despite what her name might suggest, Heart has zero interest in complicated romance. So when her brilliant plan to go to prom with a group of friends is disrupted by two surprise invites, Heart knows there’s only one drama-free solution: flip a coin.

Heads: The jock. He might spend all night staring at his ex or throw up in the limo, but how bad can her brother’s best friend really be?

Tails: The theater geek…with a secret. What could be better than a guy who shares all Heart’s interests–even if he wants to share all his feelings?

Heart’s simple coin flip has somehow given her the chance to live out both dates. But where her prom night ends up might be the most surprising thing of all…

Liz Czukas

Liz Czukas is a freelance writer living outside Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  Ask Again Later is her first novel.  She collects college degrees she doesn’t use, types too loud, and always has a song stuck in her head.  In high school, Liz did go to two proms, but not at the same time.

And now for the cover! What do you think?

Ask Again Later

Here’s what Liz has to say:

“Why I Was OK Having No Say”

You hear it over and over again:  authors don’t get any input into their covers.  One of the main features that gets readers to pick up your book in the first place, and the person who knows the story best doesn’t get any say.

Guess what.  It’s true sometimes.  It was true in my case.  I honestly didn’t know if I’d be asked for any input by the team at HarperTeen until the day the completed cover showed up in my inbox.

When I got the message my stomach clenched into the biggest knot.  There was the file just waiting to be opened and reveal my fate.  Knowing my book has a prom theme, all I could think was “It’s going to be a pretty girl in a pretty dress that doesn’t look anything like Heart.”

So, after a panicky email to my editor when the first file wouldn’t open, I got the darn thing open, and…I felt like I’d won the lottery.

It was bold.  It was graphic.  It was text-based.  *faint*

I have always loved the simplest covers with large text, a single image or even none.  I couldn’t believe it had fallen into my lap that way.

Are there things I could crab about?  Sure.  But they come down to personal taste for the most part, and I will be the first person to admit that the things I don’t know about selling books could fill a couple of oceans.  So, I’m going with the experts on this one.  Alison Carmichael and Michelle Taormina and the rest of the team at HarperTeen did me proud.

Would I have gone diva and complained if I didn’t get so lucky?  The world may never know.  I’m just glad I didn’t have to find out!

  1. I think the cover's gorgeous! I'm not a huge fan of covers with the MC's face all over them…mostly because I like to imagine the MC “the way I want”. ;) Hehe. So this cover is fabulous! Reminds me of The Fault in Our Stars for some reason. Definitely adding this to-read!!

  2. I have to admit, I wasn't a HUGE fan of the cover at first glance. The more I look at it, though, I'm starting to like it more. (Mind you, I would prefer if it was purely text based, as the photoshopped head seems a bit…cheesy.) It seems like such a fun story, though, so I'm sure it will take my mind off the cover, haha.

  3. I think the cover is really cute. The fact that I didn't even bother attending my Senior Year Prom in high school is irreverent. I'd love to get to own this book and pass it along to my granddaughters as they get old enough.

  4. The tagline on the cover is intriguing. “One prom. Two dates. A night to remember.” That alone peaked my interest. Then I read the blurb and… well, I am anxious to read it. It sounds like a nice contemporary book. I have been in dire need for one. Need a break from all the paranormal, fantasy, and sci-fi I been reading.

  5. Couldn't be happier for Liz! The cover is fabulous and I too love a good type treatment. (Sorry for the double post, I wasn't logged in.)

  6. Wow… Totally can't wait to read this! Adding it to my TBR list… Beautiful cover, too! ; ) I love this genre and I always wonder what made the author choose to write in this kind of genre? Thanks for sharing with us and Thanks for the giveaway!

  7. The book sounds like it will be good. The cover is cute. I am a high school librarian and I can definitely see the students seeing this cover and picking this book to read! Thanks for the giveaway!
