Trailer Reveal and Giveaway for CANARY by Rachele Alpine

Posted by on June 14, 2013

I revealed the cover for Rachele Alpine’s CANARY a few months ago, and I’m excited to exclusively reveal the trailer for her debut! First, check out the cover, read the synopsis, and watch the trailer! Even better, Rachele is giving away a one-of-a-kind annotated ARC of CANARY, complete with notes about the book, herself, and inspiration. She’s also highlighted favorite lines and sections, created a playlist, marked things that were changed in the final version…all that good stuff!

Canary

Staying quiet will destroy her, but speaking up will destroy everyone.

Kate Franklin’s life changes for the better when her dad lands a job at Beacon Prep, an elite private school with one of the best basketball teams in the state. She begins to date a player on the team and quickly gets caught up in a world of idolatry and entitlement, learning that there are perks to being an athlete.

But those perks also come with a price. Another player takes his power too far and Kate is assaulted at a party. Although she knows she should speak out, her dad’s vehemently against it and so, like a canary sent into a mine to test toxicity levels and protect miners, Kate alone breathes the poisonous secrets to protect her dad and the team. The world that Kate was once welcomed into is now her worst enemy, and she must decide whether to stay silent or expose the corruption, destroying her father’s career and bringing down a town’s heroes.

Rachele Alpine

I’m a high school English teacher by day, MFA student by night and YA writer during any time in between. I like to write with a big cup of coffee, good music and my puppy by my side.

And now, the moment you’ve been waiting for: THE TRAILER!

And here’s a little bit from Rachele herself!
I’m offering up an annotated ARC of CANARY. This means that I’ve written ALL OVER IT! It’s full of doodles and comments about things like my favorite passages, the passages that were the hardest to write, parts that changed in the final version, bloopers, what I was thinking when I wrote a scene, a playlist for CANARY and where some of my ideas came from. Basically, you get to peek inside my head when you’re reading!

When I worked with the trailer designer, the two of us really wanted to focus on the atmosphere of Kate’s new school and the power the basketball team held. Kate writes a blog called, All My Truths. Each entry starts with “Today’s Truth” at the top and she then reveals something that she learned that day. I wanted the book trailer to reflect her progression of truths. The first is innocent, but as the trailer goes on, it shows that perhaps the truths she is revealing are things that many may want to stay hidden.

  1. I love the trailer and cannot wait to read this book! I've been looking forward to this book since about February. I've got the post cards and signed bookmarks as well as a personal note from Rachel! I just need to add the book and I will have everything!

Congrats Rachel on the release of your trailer!

  2. Aaah, it's so pretty, and I love those little flashes of color in the video. And I totally love the concept behind the video. :)

P.S. Is this contest international? Because you didn't really say anything.

  3. What a treat to give a written in ARC away. It would be a treasure. This book reminds me of SPEAK and the power behind that novel. I can't wait to read Rachel's. And the trailer is perfect for the feel of the book. So excited for Rachel!

  4. Ahhhh, I've been waiting for this for SO. LONG!!! (Of course it's nothing compared to Rachele's wait, but, you know…) The very INSTANT that I saw the cover reveal and read the synopsis – many, many moons ago – I knew I wanted this one in my grubby little hands. Like, NOW!! I would absolutely, positively LOVE to have an annotated copy, because I so enjoy hearing about an author's thought processes and what the book means to them – almost as much as I love actually reading the book! I would treasure this for the rest of my days!!

Now I shall have to pray to the gods of the Rafflecopter for the next 8.5 days. (In the meantime, I've got this baby on pre-order ;))

  5. Wow… Totally can't wait to read this! Adding it to my TBR list… Beautiful cover, too! ; ) I love this genre and I always wonder what made the author choose to write in this kind of genre? Thanks for sharing with us and Thanks for the giveaway!

    1. Meghan…thanks for the cover love! I was really excited about it too! I think I chose to write contemporary because that's what I've always read and loved! Can't wait for you to read CANARY!

  6. The first time I had the pleasure of hearing about Canary was when I got Icey's email in my inbox. I was intrigued immediately, and I cannot wait to jump into this story. It sounds really, really good. And I am absolutely crazy about the cover!
