NIL by Lynne Matson Cover Reveal and Giveaway

Posted by on July 24, 2013

I’m thrilled to be revealing the cover for Lynne Matson’s NIL – a debut YA thriller with a scifi twist. It sounds incredible, and the cover looks just as thrilling. First, here’s a little bit about the book. Be sure to drop your thoughts on the cover and enter to win one of two early copies from the lovely people at Macmillan!

On the mysterious island of Nil, the rules are set. You have exactly 365 days to escape—or you die.

Seventeen-year-old Charley doesn’t know the rules. She doesn’t even know where she is. The last thing she remembers is blacking out, and when she wakes up, she’s naked in an empty rock field.

Lost and alone, Charley finds no sign of other people until she meets Thad, the gorgeous leader of a clan of teenage refugees. Soon Charley learns that leaving the island is harder than she thought . . . and so is falling in love. With Thad’s time running out, Charley realizes that she has to find a way to beat the clock, and quickly.

Lynne Matson

Lynne is a former attorney who thinks writing books for teens is much more fun. :) Her debut novel, NIL, a YA thriller with a SF twist, will be published by Macmillan/Henry Holt on March 4, 2014.

When she’s not writing or reading, you’ll find her hanging out with her husband and their 4 boys, usually at the beach. Cookies are her kryptonite, especially thin mints.

And now for the cover! What do you think?

  1. LOVE the cover, Lynne, especially the color palette. It's got a cool Survivor vibe going on, and surprisingly enough, that's not a theme we've seen often in YA.

    Can't wait to read it!

    1. Oh, Krista, so glad! I love it all too–the colors, the attitude, the Survivor (and LOST!) vibe, the tallymarks, everything.:) And I'm glad the premise feels fresh! :) So excited! Thanks for sharing your thoughts! :)

  2. This cover is awesome! I love how it so perfectly illustrates what's going on in the book-especially the tons of tally marks showing the passage of time. I can't wait to read this! I really love survivor-style books.

  3. This looks AWESOME! I LOVE the concept! There's something about things like this that really interest me, so I really, really want to read it! Can't wait!

  4. I LOVE THIS COVER SO MUCH!! It reminds me of Survivor! Seriously, I hadn't heard of this before, and Macmillan is one of my favorite publishers. Ahhh! I'm kind of dying for this book now. I'm going to go bug a publicist for it… bye :)

    1. Becca, I love the Survivor vibe too! And Macmillan is AWESOME–I feel very blessed. They've been amazing, and were one of my faves too, even before they became my publisher! I hope you enjoy NIL!

  5. Oh, it looks so amazing! I have been DYING to read this book, and I really, really, really, hope I win on of these copies! Thanks for this amazing giveaway!

  6. I'm really digging this cover especially the marks used to keep track of time. If you were stuck on an island stripped of all modern day conveniences that's the exact way you'd have to keep track of days. I think this book sounds fabulous and I personally can't wait to read this.

    1. EXACTLY!!! That's what I thought too, Kristen. I absolutely LOVE the tally marks…and how they swirl like a clock, or a wormhole.:)

Thanks for the cover love and comment!:) xo

  7. I like the cover a lot, the hashmarks are cool and I bet after reading the book I'll recognize the silhouettes as the individual characters they are. Thanks.

  8. I have to say, my favorite part about the cover is the daily marks. How eye catchingly perfect. Is it crazy that I am tempted to count them?

(Also, I hope they will be UV spot coated/super shiny on the finished book!)

  9. Ooh! That cover is FANTASTIC! I'd definitely pick up that book in a store — love it! And NIL's summary is so intriguing. Can't wait to read this one! Congrats, Lynne!

    1. LOL. Stephanie, I have to ask: did you actually EAT the Twinkie…and was it totally gross?! :) (And now they’re back…in a smaller form, apparently. :D) Anyway, I hope you enjoyed PIVOT POINT (one of my faves!) and I hope you love NIL too! Thanks for the comment, Stephanie, and the NIL book love!
