This is my first time participating in the Authors are Rockstars tour, and I’m beyond thrilled to have one of my favorite authors – Anna Banks – here for a little Q&A. She’s worn out from writing the final installment to her debut series, OF NEPTUNE, which I am stoked to get my hands on. If you haven’t read this series, you are seriously missing out on some wicked good stuff.
What makes Anna Banks a rockstar, you ask? The fact that her books are amazing, and that she, as a person, is hilarious and incredibly sweet. She makes time for her fans and responds to pretty much every tweet. She knows how to write a book – with the most funniest scenes that can be followed by a gut-wrenching one. You have to be a pro to mess with emotions like that. And Anna Banks is just that.
Anna Banks: If the giant squid really exists, what freaking ELSE could be out there? (There’s an interesting story behind this but you said “question” so that’s the question, mkay?)
IceyBooks: Do you have a favorite line that was removed from the original draft of OF POSEIDON?
Anna Banks: No, I fought for all my favorite lines, BUT I will say that there is a part omitted in the scene where Galen attacks Toraf on the beach. Galen was originally naked, and there was mention made of his um…eel…
IceyBooks: Tell us a little bit about your journey to signing with your (awesome) agent.
Anna Banks: I did it the hard way, which is through the slush pile. Sending out query letters to agents. When I got the call from Lucy, I was about to board a cruise ship with all my sisters. I didn’t recognize the number so I answered in a deeply southern accent (because I thought it was a telemarketer and I practice my accents on telemarketers). Well, it was a real live NYC agent who probably thought she had the wrong number. She said she only read the first 75 pages of OF POSEIDON but said she wanted it even if the rest of the document was blank!
Pretty much ruined my cruise because it was the keeping me from my shiny new writing career for 4 days! (P.S. We’re planning another all girls cruise as we speak so all is well!))
IceyBooks: If you could choose any one of your characters to come to life, who would you choose and why? (Please say Galen)
Anna Banks: Galen is a tempting option, but I’d have to say Toraf. The entertainment would be endless.
IceyBooks: Give us the one:
-Movies you can’t wait to see:
Anna Banks: If they make a Hulk movie, but if not, the next Avengers movie, and if they wanted to do a million sequels to Pitch Perfect, I would watch them all.
IceyBooks: Snacks you’re craving right now:
Anna Banks: Screw snacks! Give me breakfast!
IceyBooks: Books you can’t wait to read:
Anna Banks: JINN by Lori Goldstein (Spring 2015) though the title may change.
New York Times Bestselling author of The Syrena Legacy series.
Grew up in a town called Niceville. No, seriously. I graduated from Niceville High School. So did J Lo’s second husband. And the guy that plays Aqua Man on Smallville dated my best friend.
Now I indulge my tendency to lie by writing the lies down and selling them to publishers. Well actually my agent sells it, so she’s an accomplice to lies. One of my lies is called OF POSEIDON. The sequel is called OF TRITON. I’m still making up the third lie, OF NEPTUNE.
And um. I also write adult fiction under pen name Anna Scarlett. One of the adult lies is DEGREES OF WRONG.
That is all.

Galen is the prince of the Syrena, sent to land to find a girl he’s heard can communicate with fish. Emma is on vacation at the beach. When she runs into Galen—literally, ouch!—both teens sense a connection. But it will take several encounters, including a deadly one with a shark, for Galen to be convinced of Emma’s gifts. Now, if he can only convince Emma that she holds the key to his kingdom…
Told from both Emma and Galen’s points of view, here is a fish-out-of-water story that sparkles with intrigue, humor, and waves of romance.
