An Interview with Sarah Guillory, Plus Giveaway for RECLAIMED

Hey-o! We’re back with another interview, this time, with the lovely Sarah Guillory, author of RECLAIMED. Her debut hit shelves earlier last month from Spencer Hill Press. Be sure to stay til the end, there’s a giveaway!

ReclaimedIceyBooks: Many novels are inspired by one sentence or question, was there one that sparked RECLAIMED?

Sarah Guillory:
“I’m with the wrong brother.” I had a dream and this line came to me. It’s not actually in the story, but it was what set the whole thing in motion.

IceyBooks:  Do you have a favorite line that was removed from the original draft of RECLAIMED?

Sarah Guillory: “When generations of your family have always lived in one place, you are who you are before you are even you.” I really miss this line. Jenna says it to Luke, and it’s the truth. Killing your darlings, man – it stings.

IceyBooks: What were your first thoughts when you saw the cover for your debut?

Sarah GuillorThe cover is perfect. The cover designer, Jenn Rush, actually posted this picture on Twitter, and the minute I saw it, I knew I had to have it. The girl is exactly how I pictured Jenna. I messaged my editor, who had already seen it and thought the same thing, and all of a sudden, we had a cover.

IceyBooks: What’s your one must-have as a writer?

Sarah Guillory: Green ink pens (for revising)

IceyBooks: Give us the one:

Sarah Guillory:Divergent, of course.

IceyBooks: Snack you’re craving right now:

Sarah Guillory: Salted caramel gelato

About the Book

Jenna Oliver doesn’t have time to get involved with one boy, let alone two.

All Jenna wants is to escape her evaporating small town and her alcoholic mother. She’s determined she’ll go to college and find a life that is wholly hers—one that isn’t tainted by her family’s past. But when the McAlister twins move to town and Jenna gets involved with both of them, she learns the life she planned may not be the one she gets.

Ian McAlister doesn’t want to start over; he wants to remember.

Ian can’t recall a single thing from the last three months—and he seems to be losing more memories every day. His family knows the truth, but no one will tell him what really happened before he lost his memory. When he meets Jenna, Ian believes that he can be normal again because she makes not remembering something he can handle.

The secret Ian can’t remember is the one Luke McAlister can’t forget.

Luke has always lived in the shadow of his twin brother until Jenna stumbles into his life. She sees past who he’s supposed to be, and her kiss brings back the spark that life stole. Even though Luke feels like his brother deserves her more, Luke can’t resist Jenna—which is the trigger that makes Ian’s memory return.

Jenna, Ian, & Luke are about to learn there are only so many secrets you can keep before the truth comes to reclaim you.

Wow, this sounds like such a great book! I love that line that Sarah shared with us- about our past. I think it’s gorgeous and it kind of sucks that it wasn’t included in the book. I guess that’s the nature of writing, though. =/ Also, it’s neat that her necessity for writing are green ink pens. ;) I would have thought it would’ve been something like your laptop, or music, but to each to their own, I suppose. ;) Also, I now really want gelato. *stomach grumbles*

    Lovely interview, you two! <3
