Q&A with Ryan Graudin, Author of ALL THAT GLOWS – Plus Giveaway

Posted by on February 14, 2014

We’re thrilled to be on the blog tour for Ryan Graudin, and her debut, ALL THAT GLOWS, hosted by the amazing duo over at Rockstar Book Tours. ALL THAT GLOWS hits shelves on February 11th with its beautiful cover from HarperTeen. Here at IceyBooks, we’re excited to start reading!

IceyBooks: Describe ALL THAT GLOWS in 5-7 words:

Ryan Graudin: British royalty. Faeries. Palace murder.

IceyBooks: Many novels are inspired by one sentence or question, was there one that sparked ALL THAT GLOWS?

Ryan Graudin: Why yes! ALL THAT GLOWS was the product of a writing prompt that asked for a “modern, sexy” take on Fae. I started thinking about it and wondered “What would it look like if modern day royalty had Faery Godmothers?” Voila! The inception of ALL THAT GLOWS.

IceyBooks: Do you have a favorite line that was removed from the original draft of ALL THAT GLOWS?

Ryan GraudinHere’s a section I had to take out: “Twenty-four hours ago I was the happiest Fae in the world. Now every element of my life seems to be hanging by single spider threads. One clip of a blade and everything will implode. I’m just waiting for the final blow.”

IceyBooks: Tell us a little bit about your journey to signing with your agent:

Ryan Graudin: Well. This story is a tad complicated because the agent I have now is not the agent who sold ALL THAT GLOWS. It took me a year and a half, three manuscripts and over 200 queries to land my first agent. She sold ALL THAT GLOWS and its sequel to HarperTeen and then we amiably parted ways due to a difference in taste. My second round of querying was vastly different. I had a much smaller list of agents I wanted to query (about 15). It took about two weeks for me to accept an offer of representation from Adams Literary. They went on to sell my November 2014 book THE WALLED CITY plus a sekrit duology to Little, Brown. But to all of you in the query trenches! Keep writing and keep trying! Rejection is (a really sucky) part of the journey.

IceyBooks: Give us the three:
Movies you can’t wait to see:

Ryan Graudin: The final Hobbit installment! Does Sherlock season 3 count as a movie? Also, still waiting for The Day of the Doctor to make it to Hulu!!

IceyBooks: Snacks you’re craving right now:

Ryan Graudin: Pretzels dipped in Nutella. Shrimp chips from the Asian supermarket. Buckeyes.

IceyBooks: Books you can’t wait to read:

Ryan Graudin: Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor. Raven Boys III by Maggie Stiefvater. Sinner by Maggie Stiefvater.

Ryan Graudin grew up in Charleston and graduated from the College of Charleston with a degree in Creative Writing in 2009. She is the author of All That Glows and The Walled City. She resides near Charleston with her husband and wolf-dog.

Thanks to Ryan, we’ve got 2 SIGNED copies OF ALL THAT GLOWS and two tins of tea to giveaway!

money to the casino in their own chosen way. Try to figure out feasible angles that could lead to the
millions. There are many formats of lottery games toothat are doing the rounds such as scratch and win tickets, user selectedtickets, pre selected numbers that are printed and sold as lottery tickets andthe video based lottery games.
